Apologies but I have spent half and hour on this already and I am a really frustrated!

In the documentation it says

Reset the permissions on /catalog/includes/configure.php to 644 (if you are still getting

the warning message at the top set configure.php to 444 which is read only - this happens

on some servers that have been updated for security reasons).

what the hell does this mean, how do I configure it??

sorry but I am totally new to web design and have only been studying MySQL and PHP for 3 weeks.

I think there should be a newbies forum on this.

thanks

There's usally a link to a File Manager in your Web Hosting control panel - and you can use this to reset permissions on folders and/or files.

thanks for replying :D

I am working locally with XAMPP v 1.5.3a

* Apache 2.2.2

* MySQL 5.0.21

* PHP 5.1.4

* phpMyAdmin 2.8.1

* XAMPP Control Panel Version 2.3

* FileZilla FTP Server 0.9.16c

could you explain to me what a permission is and where EXACTLY i have to change it?

thanks again :D

ok, I didn't actually need to do what you suggested, after an hour of searching all I had to do was change the files to 'read only'

I hope this helps other people!

that IS changing permissions

"I must admit that I personally measure success in terms of the contributions an individual makes to her or his fellow human beings."

---Margaret Mead---

"The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.
