I don't like to give the appearance of a slam, so I'll give you what information I can in a positive way. I'll give you some examples of sites where I installed the different link directories so you can see them in action.

I have tried about five products, which include Zeus (the pro version) ... an example at http://www.londonlink.ca/links/ThemeIndex.html and http://www.eternalbattery.com/links/ThemeIndex.html

Zeus is VERY hard to make your page look the way you want. The second example (eternal battery) was the first attempt I made at zeus and it took a whole day or more just to get the template to lay out correctly.

http://www.vividministries.com/lma/directory uses a different one which I think was Link Machine. It was easy to set up and the customization was MUCH easier than Zeus. I think it took an hour or less to get this one running.

http://www.saynotobell.com/directory/ <-- I liked installing this one better than the other two I had tried. But I didn't do a lot of work to the layout.

I tried a 4th solution which I don't remember what it was called. I un-installed it after a week or two as it didn't work the way I thought it would. I don't know if they overstated their claims, or if I "expected" more.

.......................................

The good news ... after trying four linking solutions I found one I LOVE!!!! It is PHP Link Directory.

They have a free version, though I paid the small fee $25 (per web site) to get the paid version, and then paid $10 to join an extra area of their forum.

The guys that wrote this app are amazing! The support they provided to get this up and running was outstanding.

If you can set up OSCOMMERCE? You can easily do PHP Link Directory.

The reason I like it best, is that all the hard work is in the set up ... not in the running it.

When someone submits a link request, they get an email telling them it is pending. Then when the link is approved, it sends them an email. With my zeus directories I had to do this manually. The reason I love it, is because I want "reciprocal" links. So the link request can't go through until the reciprocal link is up.

These examples I have are relatively new so there aren't a lot of links in them yet.

Kitchen Resources Directory

Black Russian Terrier Resources Directory

Oh and I forgot to mention, that before even venturing down this path of using software, I paid a programmer to write me something, which is at www.londonlink.ca <--- even THAT isn't as robust as PHP Link Directory.

I hope all this makes sense. If there's something specific you want to ask, that I didn't address, please fire away!

Good luck

Gin
