Dress up category listings with images and new font styles

I'd like to stylize my category listings that appear on the main catalog page. For example, place a small image next to the category name, play with the type fonts a bit, perhaps turn the listing into a bulleted list. My guess is the font attributes are in the infobox part of the stylesheet. Where else can I go to play with the category listing that gets pulled into the category page?

Thanks for your help
