PayPal and SSL

Hi,

I am planning to use PayPal on my store and have researched the IPN, printed off the Guide and am going through it but I can't seem to determine if I need an SSL Cert. on the server if I am using PayPal. Can someone tell me if it is necessary? I am hoping that if I use PayPal that all sensitive information will be taken on their site and not mine. Is this possible? Thanks for all your help.

Yeah, from what I gather, if you?re using PayPal to receive payments, the customer gets transferred to the PayPal site before they give any personal details. So its PayPal who requires SSL and not you.

The only reason you would possibly want SSL is to give your customers more confidence. (Because it shows the closed padlock)

I would always have a SSl if I am asking customers to give details during the checkout process. If you are asking customers to create accounts by giving their personal details ie. name, email, dob etc then we should all take responsibility for storing their details securely within the database. Even if the payment details are being processed securely by a 3rd party. It doesn't cost alot and isn't hard to configure but the confidence it gives your customers is huge!

Clive
