Integration of inventory management systems

Hi developers!

 

We want to develop an interface between an inventory management system and osCommerce.

So we're still looking for the best way to get connection between these two systems.

We heard about using WebServices / SOAP and other possibilities...

 

What different ways do you see to connect them?

 

And how can we do it

...using secure transmission?

...without directly read/write into database?
