Thumbnail attribute problems

I'm cloning a site onto a new server, and have run into an interesting issue. When I attempted to change the new site's thumbnail image attributes, the detail was simply deleted.

 

So as I tried to reduce the width, the width attribute disappeared and became based off of the height.

 

I've tried time and time to edit it again, but each time the number is not saved. I have tried it on other attributes with similar results.

 

Is there a way to easily replace the width definition (i.e. image width=100 ) directly in the php?
