daddylogan1 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Well folks...I have only been here a little while, and I am usually not too confused on how to do things, but with this cart and such I am pulling my hair out trying to understand things. Please inform this newbie here on what to do. First, yes I have html knowledge and web-designing skills. Been doing it for years...BUT have never dabbled in the world of php that much. Anyhow, I have a client who wants a store. I say, no problem cause I know of this osCommerce thing. I upload the site, and it works so far but I soon discover I want to change things. The first thing I want to add is a Lightbox. I try and it does not work. I post here and ask for help and within 24 hours my post is on page 4-5 and noone reply's. Finally someone does, it doesn't work, I reply and then the wait begins again! I search the forums, looking for answers, but none to my question...I did try folks. Anyhow, I decide I am going to buy a template so the cart looks nice and not stock. So I goto the Template store and buy one. It said "for an osCommerce store" so I thought "ok, cool...I have mine installed and this will plop right over it." Anyhow I get the download and there are no instructions to speak of worth a @#*& and now it says I downloaded a CRE Loaded template. What, wait...I am new here...what is CRE??? I don't even know what the initials stand for??? LOL At least when I installed the REGULAR osC, it had good instructions and only took me 1 time to do it. These instructions don't tell what folders to change permissions on or anyhting. I think it is because they want ya to pay the 45.00 extra for them to do it, hence the crappy install file. Anyhow, can anyone help lead this blind person along here and tell me what I have and what I need to do to get it installed and running. Once again, here is what I have done: 1) Installed a stock osCommerce on a server 2) Decided to buy a template to cahnge the stock look. 3) Bought a template at the Template Store that was for osCommerce. 4) Got the zip dowload of the template (after spending 165.00) with the crappiest instructions ever and the surprise of this CRE stuff which I know nothing about. My question is...what do I do? Please help me and don't let this fall to page 10 by the end of the night with no responeses...I WANT to learn...just need some teachers. peace out, daddy
Guest Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 CRE is a loaded version of osC, for a template I don't think it would make a difference. I have never looked at a template before but if there is something there for the header, footer, left and right columns, and main body it should be fairly easy. There are lots of templates in the contribution section also, you might want to see if any of them look similar and hopefully they might have better instructions.
my scrap shop G Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 LOL I hear you! but... no one "owes" us any help, so I guess we are at the whim of what the mighty ones are doing on any particular day/night. (I'm just your bump, good luck!)
Jack_mcs Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Logan - The template you have won't work with a regular oscommerce shop. You need to decide if you are going to go with CRE or stick with the stock oscommerce. Personally, I think going with CRE is a big mistake and you will run into other problems down the road. But if you go with it, to install the template, you just need to upload the files provided over your existing shop (do a backup first in case you want to revert to the stock shop). You will also have to upload the included database. If you want to stick with the stock shop, there are many templates available for it too. I would contact the site you purchased the template from and explain the situation. They may let you exchange it. As for not receiving a reply to your post, that sometimes happens. If you haven't received a reply after a few days, post again, in a new thread. It could be your post wasn't seen by the right person or that your question was to specific or would take too much time to be answered here. Not all posts will get answered.
