Ok here's the gig.

 

Let's say I'm a music store but I don't sell DVDs.

 

I get lots of people asking for them but I don't want the extra work load for the small profit they provide.

 

I discover the answer to my problem is a friend who only sells DVDs and he'll give me a commison for each one I sell.

 

Now what I want to do is give him access to upload his products to my store but I only want him to be able to add products to the DVD Catagory only and not be able to use any other part of admin.

 

So he adds the products I sell them get it ? :D

 

Now extra :thumbsup: - to make this easy, I would also like an email going out to him each time a customer buys a DVD. That way he can send out the DVD without me having to tell him each time. Might require also that he is able to print off any invoice for DVD sales and perhaps an accounting feature to tell me how much I owe him etc.

 

Anyone know of such a contribution available?

You may try the newer vendor contribution I seen added here a month or so ago. I made up an affiliate based system, which works off XML, but it is not designed for what you are doing, but might be an ideal way to do this, that way you keep people out of the admin tool.

 

If not, you will need to add in the admin with levels contribution, and modify the categories and orders tools, so that when they login, the products associated with them are displayed only. You may have to modify the admin with levels so that categories they are allowed to use are displayed with them.
