H1 Tags on product pages

Hi there

Has anybody tried using H1 tags on product_info pages? and have you noticed any different in search engine rankings?

IMO, using H1 tags on product titles won't cause any harm and will improve rankings (even if its a tiny bit)

Can somebody tell me how i can put h1 tags in product titles?

I also want to be able to use H1 tags for category titles.

Any replies would be grateful

Thanks

Yes, you should do that. But doing it by itself won't gain you much. Try installing the Header Tags contribution and it will set up that page as well as the categories page, among many other things.

Hi jack, thanks for your reply

Which header tags contribution is this then? Because i've curently got "Header tags controller" installed, which just lets me control the page title, and meta information and thats about it

I've just figured out how to add h1 tags onto the products pages. Just trying to find out how to do the same for the category pages.

There is only one Header Tags so you have the right one. But you either have an old version or it is not installed correctly since that code is changed when it is installed.

I've just downloaded the latest header tags controller contrib from yourself, and reading the install readme - It looks like the index.php file wasn't modfied. I'll get that sorted tommorow

Thanks again

Jack looks like this is a must have contribution. Is there a tutorial or something where I can learn how to properly take advantage of this functionality. I'm in the startup stage of setting up an osc store and would prefer doing as much right the first time, rather than going back.

Are these tags that are manually filled in, or are they based on product/category? There's so much about SEO available here or on the web but few good resources that actually give the needed information to fully take advantage of it.

No, unfortunately, like most contributions, there's not much as far as instructions. It is harder for this one since the subject of SEO covers such a wide range. The trick is that you have to pick out the proper keywords. If you run fill tags it will setup your categories and products properly. A lot of people want to change this but, if left alone, your products will usually begin ranking well in the SE listings. That depedns on the product, of course.
