Adding product info to the index.php

I am trying to add more information to my index file so that when customers browse my products (books), they can see the format, author, publisher, number of pages, etc. Most of these are fields added using the Products Extra Fields contribution. Any suggestions on how I should go about doing this? Any advice would be appreciated, as my MySQL experience is very limited.
