Hi I am having an issue with the quality of my images being distorted when they are scaled down. I have put a link below to one that probably shows the distortion best.

Image Example

Advise on this would be more than welcome.

If you have photoshop you can open a new image to the size of your small image width and height in admin.

then resize with "constrain proportions" selected and resize either the width or height to match the image you want to use( if your image is 255x200 then enlarge width to 255). then create a new layer, turn off the background layer so now you have a transparent background. copy and paste your image into the one you just created. merge visible then save as a gif.

this way no distortion takes place due to proportions being the same as what you have set in your admin for the small image and the background is transparent so no extra "white edges".

Hope this made sense!

admin > configuration > images >

clear values for either height or width on each type of image. this will stop distortion but allow size change.

I thought this stuff was gonna be easy!!

Are you suggesting to repeat this process for thousands of images?

I prefer to use couple of php functions to scale whatever image is in the store automatically with a thumbnailer. And I would prefer to stick with jpg instead of gif for the product images. It's far better.
