Taxes

Well first , determine what states you want/need to charge tax for. Then, I think the explanation in the pdf is a little easier to understand:

Here it is...

How to Setup Your Taxes

In admin, under Locations/Taxes, click on "Tax Zones"

Click on the "new zone" button. In the Zone Name: input field I enter "CA"

For Description I enter "California". Click on "insert"

After you click insert, you will see CA show up in the list. You think you're done, but not

quite!

Click on the "CA" (or whatever name you have!) in the list and you will see the heading

say "Geographical Zones / CA"

Here you see a "new zone" button again. Click on it!

Now you get to select a geographical zone. From Country, I Select United States

From Region, Select California. Click "update"

A few more steps to go! Now under "Locations/Taxes" click on "Tax Rates"

Click on "new tax rate" button

Select "Taxable Goods" from the Tax Class Title drop down menu

From the Zone menu, select CA (or whatever zone you created)

In the Tax Rate field enter the tax percentage

In the Description, enter the description, e.g. "California Sales Tax"

Now you're done!

Thanks

I was testing out the cart and it's not calculating the tax. I have all my variables defined in regards to tax rate, zone, and class. Am I missing something else?

Check your settings in admin>>modules>>order total.

The tax needs a value assigined there (for the order of appearance/calculation @ checkout). It needs to be below anything that you want it added to. (i.e. subtotal - 1, shipping - 2, tax - 3) might be a common arrangement.

Try that next. :)

I tried that also. It's still not calculating the tax, even though everything under tax is defined.

You've assigned a tax class to your products ?

There has to be something missing, or it would work ;)

I just noticed my state has a duplicate zone. I deleted it. I'll run another test again and see what happens

It still didn' work. Now none of my payment methods are showing up. when customer checks out, the checkout procedure is stuck at select payment methods, but no payment methods show up and 3 have been activated.

It sounds like your settings in the payment modules for "payment zone" are excluding you from being eligible for that payment method...so no payment methods show up.

Payment Zone

If a zone is selected, only enable this payment method for that zone.

I would suggest going back to you payment methods and setting the payment zone to "none" at least temporarily...see if they show back up at checkout then. It sounds backwards to set it to "none"...but just try it. If it doesn't see you as being in that zone, it won't present the module to you. If 'none' is selected, it doesn't exclude anyone.

I got the taxes to show and set all payments to "none", but I ran another test and now checkout gets stuck at the delivery information.
