choosealogin Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I'm not sure if I understand your question, but in this case: I know i can only open a new directory, i just want some ideas from you whetever got peoples doing like this?Secondly, I have mentioned some others web sites have their own forum. But the forum url basically start with http://forum.temporary.com Is that http://forum.temporary.com share the same domain with http://www.temporary.com or others way. forum would be set up as a subdomain of temporary.com Your web hosting control panel usually gives you an interface for setting up subdomains. Basically, to add files, etc you access it as temporary.com/forum but with it set up as a subdomain, you can visit it with the link http://forum.temporary.com
Jack_mcs Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 You can do that but if the sites are totally unrelated, like a shop for computers in the main directory and a shop for auto parts in a sub-directory, it would seem rather unprofessional to do it that way, at least to me. If your hosting plan allows you to have add-on domains, you can purchase another domain name for the other shop and have it work out of a sub-directory while keeping the url's different. As for the forums, there was a nasty bug a while back that allowed hackers to damage an oscommerce shop by getting in through the forums. That bug was fixed, as far as I know, but I'm not sure I would want to risk it. If you do have the forums open through your site, have it open in a new browser. smithveg Posted July 3, 2006 Author Posted July 3, 2006 Thanks for all youe reply. I will measure what is related and what's not related sites. Besides that, I will just create a forum in my www.example.com/forum. can i just access by forum.example.com and open in a new browser. The forum hacked you means is what, how can they hack whole hosting site through a forum. Is the dimain name too obvious and easily for others to understand the sub directories structure? smith **** Hello World! ^.^ I'm a Internet naive. Jack_mcs Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 No, you can't access it that way without setting up a dns entry in your cpanel.
