Silverado05 Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Are you hosting the site or a web hosting company? If your not hosting it yourself the mostly likely you don't have to worry about it and the contribution will work. Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. The forum is for seeking help and advice NOT for someone to do your work for you. Try to do something on your on, if you are going to run a shop then learn how it works.
Silverado05 Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Most likely you don't have to worry about anything then. Windows/IIS server is for people who are hosting their own sites from home. Most Web Hosting companys don't use Windows/IIS server. Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. Silverado05 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 If I remember correctly it's very easy. I don't think you have to edit anything it's mostly new add on files. If you do have to do any editing it like some minor one or two lines here and there. It works though and will make a huge difference. I would also add this well which is real simple and wil create meta tags for each page and product et. automatically http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...namic+Meta+Tags Then I would add a sitemap and the good sitemap feed contribution and you should be set. Good Luck Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. The forum is for seeking help and advice NOT for someone to do your work for you. Silverado05 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...,Google+sitemap Then just go here once installed and submit the link to the sitemap to be crawled. Silverado05 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Yea don't worry about that one, it is a fix for an earlier verison. Download the next one down dated 18 Jun 2006 and you should be good to go. That is the one I have been putting on shops and I have had no problems with it. If you have any more problems let me know and I will try to help you out. It's pretty straight forward if I remember correctly. Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. What about the 8th of april I downloaded that one and it is in zip format and has the seperate folders for uploading.
choosealogin Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 If Silverado hasn't had any trouble with the version from 18 June, then that should work. personally, I'm using an older version from 8 Dec 2005 ...it also works. With the contributions, you kind of just have to read the descriptions carefully and make sure you've got a "full" version instead of just a patch/fix. With some experience, the difference will become obvious. When you run into a tar file, you just need to untar it...unzip then untar...it just adds an extra step. I think winzip will do both. I use winace.

choosealogin Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Your osC contribution selection instincts are good, then. Especially in the beginning, pick the versions that look more user-friendly. Newer is not always better...when I see a rash of 'updates' by 10 different people, I tend to run the other way. Chemo's old version from 8 Dec 2005 works fine and the instructions could not be more user friendly...he writes good instructions. Click click click and you're done...well, not quite that quick but almost.

I just had to almost recode this whole template I have.
Silverado05 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I just went back and you're right the June 18th is in a tar format now for some reason. It wasn't this way the other day. If you could attach files in the forum here I would attach the one I am use which is the newest one on the page. Mark makes a very vaild point and I do the same think personally. Read the descriptions carefully and look for the more user-friendly download. Then from their work your way back up the list installing bug fixes and patches as needed. Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. The forum is for seeking help and advice NOT for someone to do your work for you.
