Option to enter online donation amount

I'm wondering if I can have an online donation option so the donor can put in an amount to donate and then complete the purchase with the cart?

Here's my current cart:

Right now donors need to select a preset amount like a "product" - but I'd prefer to just give them the option to put in their own amount to contribute.

THANKS.

I'm very interested in this as well. I have searched these forums and found dozens of people looking for a donation or auction contribution to have a customer insert a price. Almost all of these posts go unanswered.

I have noticed there are two reasons posts go un-responded to. The poster didn't do their homework and search for the obvious answer or there is no demand for the feature requested. Neither of these things apply here. This is often asked for. I have found one person who has made a mod for this and he has added contributions in the past but for some reason isn't offering his solution as a contribution.

I've responded to your post because it's the most recent on the subject. I guess I'm puzzled why there are so many contributions for fairly obscure add ons but this one asked for by so many has only had one attempted solution and that one is not offered as a contribution. Also I got discouraged by seeing so many post asking the same question I was searching for only to see 0 responses that I would at least add one to your post, sorry it's not the answer we are looking for.

Thank you enigma1 I appreciate the suggestion, particularly from you. I have in fact installed the impulse item contribution. I know this is my own lack of imagination but I assume you are suggesting this contribution can be modified to accept the customers price input in the shopping cart by the customer, as it is now required to be added in admin.

I know a mod that accepts a description and price from the customer, paying for an auction or making a donation requires fields to be added to the database and the item and price have to be posted to the database then called by the cart to be processed as a product. I know the impulse item contribution does a lot of this, so your suggesting it's a good candidate to be modified.

Also I should have used the word specialized instead of obscure. It's just there are a lot of contributions covering a dizzying array of needs, I was just surprised there wasn't a fairly straight forward one to this given how many time I've seen it asked for in the forum.

Thanks again.

sometimes it happens like in a flash you get the idea of using one module for your own purpose although the indended application is different. I had another post someone asking to have categories for FAQs and I recommended the Articles Manager that will be much faster.

Then check the A-Z index of the all products module. You could get the FAQ module, put the front end of the A-Z index from the all products at the top and use it as an encyclopedia for your store. I am pretty sure most of the questions asked in these forumns about modules can be found in the contributions one way or another - 95% complete.

If you're looking for a module to add to your store in catalog\includes\modules always check the infoboxes because it could be already there and with minimum effort it can be integrated.

I don't see how the suggested contrib gives the ability for a customer to enter a specific dollar amount.

Has anyone made this contrib working that way?

There are tons of requests for this but I have not seen one single post that has said there is a contrib that truly is the answer (no one has said any contrib has worked for them).
