I have uploaded phpmyadmin2.8.1 into my document root, and added the config file but every time i try to gat to the phpmyadmin/index.php to install the database my browser comes back with a writing permissions error. If anyone can tell me what im doing wrong please advise!
cujimmy Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I think you'll probably need to provide a lot more information. It's just that there's a terminology problem that might need to get sorted before I would have a clue what's going on. The folders for your root directory (htdocs or whatever), perl, php, apache, mySQL, and phpMyAdmin would generally lie at the same level so, if your document root is a path ending with '/htdocs', I'd think you have phpMyAdmin in the wrong directory. I'd guess you should lift the phpMyAdmin folder up one level but, before you do anything, we need as much info as possible so that we can understand what you've done up until now, what you're doing now, and what you're trying to do?? - lol Since you say you've 'uploaded' phpMyAdmin..., I take it your hosting company doesn't have Apache, PHP, mySQL, and phpMyAdmin, pre-installed and you have had to install everything yourself - is that right? Unbelievable. A recipe for a nightmare unless you've done this before. I'd think most of us, here, have never had to do that. Mostly, we only have to get into that kind of thing when we eventually decide to set up a test cart on our local machine. If you're new to osCommerce, it's got to be the hardest way to go about it. Generally, i.e. with most hosting companies, all you have to do is go into the server's pre-installed MySQL, create a new database, create a user for the database and grant the user full permissions on the database; take a note of the database name, username and password then upload the osCommerce zip to your root directory (htdocs, www, or public_html), unzip it, browse to the /catalog/install directory and follow a few very simple instructions.
extremehobbies Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Thanks for your reply, with your comments I determined where my problem was and have gotten into the database setup. My service did have the rquisite components and I needed to access them through their admin tools to get the sql going. I wouldn't have thought of it without reading your response. Cheers
cujimmy Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 had a feeling that's what it was - glad you got it sorted - and thanks for letting me know. :)
