SyntheticShield Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Hello all. I have been contemplating switching to osCommerce for a while now as my current e-commerce solution is just not making the cut. Im using Joomla CMS but I think I may just use osCommerce as a stand alone to make updating the rest of the site easier and separated from the e-commerce side of things. That said, I want to use .inc (includes) for my product descriptions. I was able to do so with my current e-commerce program but it took a fair amount of hacking to do so. I know it must seem strange to want to do it this way but I have some 200+ products that have different packaging such as single, case, etc. The description will be the same for them just the weight and price will change. Rather than have to update several product descriptions (one for single quantities, one for case, etc.) I would rather continue to use .inc files so I have just one place to update information. The weights and packaging wont change, price will from time to time but thats normal. Is there a way I can have the product description look for a .inc file and load it? Ultimately I want to keep the .inc file and the associated images in one place. That is to say have a folder for Gadgets and in that folder have a sub-folder for Gadget 001 that will contain its .inc file description and its images. Do the same for Gadget 002 and so on. Then perhaps create another folder on the same level as Gadgets for Widgets. Create a sub-folder there for Widget 001, Widget 002 and so on. Hopefully this makes sense. Is this possible with osCommerce? Forgive me if this is covered or been asked I have been looking over osCommerce and downloaded it tonight and started setting it up and getting used to it. I would appreciate any help. I basically just want to reduce the number of things Im going to have to update if a product description changes. Thanks.
SyntheticShield Posted June 27, 2006 Author Posted June 27, 2006 Anyone? I have been looking around and havent found anything yet so if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate any advice.
SyntheticShield Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 Okay, I dont want to be a pest, but no one has replied whether or not this is even possible. I mean if it is, that is to say the feature is there, I just need to search for the instructions then thats fine, but post that up please. Im seriously trying to learn and Ive been trying to search and look through the forum but I havent found anything so if someone could help out I would really appreciate it.
Wendy James Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Ok, I think this would work for what you want to do. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2311 You will still have to add each item to your store, set all of the options like name, price, total qty of stock, main image and so on... then set up individual options/attributed per product but that contribution allows you to pull any sort of external page for the description.
