Oscommerce and Database management / Inventory Control

I have a few questions for those who have created a working / established store.

I like the layout of OSCOMMERCE and plan on using it. I am creating an online fishing store which will have inventory. Most of my inventory is going to be shipped via USPS. I also plan on using Paypal until I can get a grasp on how I want to function.

I have installed the paypal IPN module and USPS shipping. Both are working well and have been tested.

I am a bit confused on what other are using to manage inventory and cost issues. The current OSCOMMERCE does not seem to have an option for Cost of an item when inputting a product. The "non" OScommerce programs I have at my disposal are the Windows Office Suite. (access, Excel, Word)

I "think" I would like to manage my inventory outside of OSCOMMERCE. I have dabbled with the Microsoft Small Business Accounting Software but am not sure if this is the way to go. I have looking into Quickbooks but not sure how it handles single item inventory.

I am not opposed to spending a small amount of money in getting some software to incorporate what I want to do. (Small amount meaning less than $300) I have tried several of the OSCommerce contributions to hand off orders, but most seem to be mostly full of errors. I need a solution.

I am using Godaddy for webhost so DSN connections to MYSQL are a no no. (I have read). I would consider changing webhosts if there was a better "complete" solution available. I like Godaddy because I have several sites and some have SSL. I can manage all from one spot with them.

Any suggestions on tools?
