redsmartie
I have read a few posts on this but it has still left me confused in a few areas. Where do I go (or what file do I edit) to retrospectivly add shared SSL support? I have seen mention of copying the whole site to the SSL folder provided by my ISP, what happens when I make site changes. Do I have to copy the whole site over again? Does this also apply to adding or deleting products? My shared SSL url is https://ssl4.servage.net/~sc13830-JODH/

My shared SSL url is https://ssl4.servage.net/~sc13830-JODH/ redsmartie, I was in the same boat as you not too long ago but I will share with you what I did. My hosting provider offered a shared ssl cert for use with my account. I told them I wanted to use it so the created a folder under my root named "secure". They gave me my secure url to use which was in the same format as yours although I have a different provider. My secure URL was "https://secure.seekdotnet.com/r639".'>https://secure.seekdotnet.com/r639". So the problem with the way things were setup was the secure url I was to use pointed at the folder named "secure" which was in my root at the same level as the "catalog" folder in which they installed OS Commerce for me. Ofcourse when I tried to use my secure url I would get the file not found error because there were no files in the folder named "secure". I did not want to have to duplicate all the files in my catalog folder into the secure folder since it just seemed like such a stupid thing to have to do. I read through all posts I could find in here about shared ssl but there are so many different variables in everyones particular circumstance that the post would sometimes contradict eachother. I finally thought that if my provider could have my secure url which was "https://secure.seekdotnet.com/r639" point to a folder in my root named "secure" then why couldn't they just point the secure url at the public_html folder which is one level above my catalog folder. If that could be done then I could use this "https://secure.seekdotnet.com/r639/catalog/" and I would be able to get to my site. (Actually I had the intention of moving everything out of my catalog folder and dropping it directly into my public_html folder so my site would be at my root.) So I contacted my provider and they were able to perform my request and thus solved my problem of having to duplicate files. Here is a little bit of extra info...... Although my duplication of files problem was resolved it did reveal a couple other problems such as the register globals problem and another problem with connecting to the database. It took some more research but it was still worth it. Good luck

Are the files used in the 'ssl' folder generic payment gateway files, regardless of copying across the whole site? I may have a couple of domains with seperate stores using the same shared SSL account and folder.

Are the files used in the 'ssl' folder generic payment gateway files, regardless of copying across the whole site? I may have a couple of domains with seperate stores using the same shared SSL account and folder. I will be having more than one store also but each store I setup will be under its own domain name and have its own hosting plan thus enabling each store to be setup with its own secure url pointing at its own root folder. Was that confusing? You see I bought a webhosting resellers account so I create new accounts for any new stores that I might need to create for me or for clients. On some instances I need to contact the provcider where I purchased my reseller account from so they can configure things I do not have access to such as creating a pointer from my secure url to a folder in an accounts path. redsmartie
I will have to limit to one shop on this hosting account. I still need to know that if I copy the site to the ssl folder will I need to create a new copy as I add products or is it just the main site engine that needs to be there?
