Standard credit card module won't work.

Using the standard payment module along with alternative checkout, and I can't get the checkout process to work at all. We want to just process the CC#'s ourselves.

The store addy is:

From time to time it seems to work with the default 4111111111111111 number and sometimes not at all. The error is:

The credit card number entered is invalid.<br>Please check the number and try again.

Any ideas on how I'd go about fixing this?

I'd be interested in hearing about any payment module that functions the same as the standard one (IE sends digits by email and keep some in the admin panel) that might fix this error, and give me more options such as CCV and card type?

It seems to work fine at first if a valid credit card number is entered (I think just beginning with a 4?) - but if it is entered wrong the first time, the user can't change the credit card number / expiry date - the store just keeps changing it back...
