ok, new to this, but getting it setup, thanks to the users here.

I'm used to MS Frontpage (yeah, I know) and sure enough, I screwed it up.

On my page, it now shows the following:

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/richard/public_html/********/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

The ***** I changed on this post for security reasons, I guess. (because it says "I am able to write to it")

Please help. Thanks.

I did install Ipswitch WS-FTP, so I will quite using MS Frontpage.

right click on the file it's warning you about, click chmod -> try 755 or 666. or untick all "writable" selections

When I right click on the file (I assume it's the "configure.php" file) I don't see what you are talking about.

Whether I am in my osComm file manager or in WSFTP, I don't see those options.

Do not use the file manager that comes with osCommerce. (ever)

Using ftp locate the file, right click, click on properties. A new box should pop up with a place you can put the 755 or 644.

Tried 755, 644, and 666 numbers, still the same warning message.

Have you tried closing your browser then going back to the site? Could be a caching issue.

check that the config files in these directories are also set to read only:

admin/includes/local/configure.php

and

catalog/includes/local/configure.php

as well as the include/configure.php files on admin and catalog side.

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/richard/public_html/eglobal-mart/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

I've tried all these things. The message above still comes up.

I have not added alot of products, maybe I can start over? Reinstall oscommerce? How?

Actually, here's what I'm thinking:

I want to change my current web (www.customcarputers.com) to the osCommerce style. That web was built with MSFrontpage. Obviusly I need to add all my products first, before this change occurs.

So, I created eglobal-mart.customcarputers.com (sub-web) to add all the products.

1. After I upload all my poducts, can I change eglobal-mart.customcarputers.com to customcarputers.com. How?

Or, since I have this error message, that I can't seem to remove, should I start over?

Again, I need to keep my current web until I've finished building the new (osCommerce) site.

I suppose I could create another subweb (aa.customcarputers.com), start over, build the new web, then delete eglobal-mart.customcarputers.com. Then when I'm finished building aa.customcarputers.com, change it to the main web "customcarputers.com".

Suggestions please?
