tracstev
Hi I have had my new website running for just over 2 weeks on google adwords and although my CTR is above 4% on a relevant keyword, i still fail to get any customers and have not made a single sale!(looks like my dream of working from home is fading fast..) The site is heavily modified and was wondering if someone can spot something obvious which is putting people off... www.peachesandplums.co.uk All feedback/advice welcome!! Thanks! abra123cadabra
First of all, you can't expect sales to take off just because you opened your shop. It needs to be indexed in the major search engines. Just checked with a free online tool and it gave me back the following search engine saturation (indexed pages of your shop): Google/AOL - 1 Hotbot - 1 MSN - 35 Yahoo/Altavista - 227 Now for your site: - You need a thumbnail contribution for your images as the quality is awful - The font on your top navigation buttons is fuzzy - The font in the category descriptions is way to big - You state in the header that ordering with you is secure but the create account page is not https - The font on shipping & returns is hard to read as it's all bold - I couldn't find your business address or phone number - The pink is a bit too bright Ok, let's face it, I'm not your typical customer anyway but to be honest, I'm not even tempted to look at any of your products. Hard to explain but they are not displayed in a way that gets me interested. I know, it's very difficult to set up a shop but you need to have some patience and invest some time to optimize your images and search engine optimization. You already installed SEO URLs which should help in the long run. Create some good backlinks to your page and while waiting for the first customers, have a look at the shops of your competitors. You can certainly find a few that are based on osC in the live shops section. Good luck! abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong. hubcat
I don't know if you have a preferred focus, but on the home page, the sex toys take center stage over the lingerie. All the lingerie is below the fold, and hardly noticeable at first. So that might be something to think about. You seem to have a lot of categories that are very similar. It might be worthwhile to compress the categories a little. For example, have 1 Vibrator category, and then use subcategories for the products. Have only 1 lingerie/clothing category and then break that down further. This one is a matter of opinion, of course, but that's what I would do. Once you actually get to products, there are a lot of them in a big, long column. I would consider a contribution that shows products in 2 or 3 columns so your customer doesn't need to scroll down so far to find out if you have what they are looking for. You only have one language, so you might want to get rid of the Languages box. You offer currency info in Euros and Dollars, but your shipping page doesn't mention anything about overseas shipping. I'm not even sure if you do it. You can probably get rid of the cartoonish icons that seem way too big on the Shipping, Links and Contact Us pages. I would definitely get rid of the number of hits counter on the bottom bar. I like the scrolling Bestsellers box, but there are only 2 items on it which makes me suspect. Have you only had 2 sales? Where's the rest? One thought is to fake the bestsellers in the database until you have a real bestsellers list, the other is to take the box out until you actually have bestsellers. I use the same scrolling box, but I didn't add it until I was in business long enough to know what was selling. Above all this, you need to realize that 2 weeks in business is nothing. Give it some time, if you keep at it and consistently improve and upgrade your site, the sales will come slowly but surely. Good luck, Adrienne
Guest
Firstly you need to optimise your images. Your front page loaded painfully slowly here and I'm on a FAST connection, if anyone was using dialup or even 128 or 256kb adsl, it's going to be really slow. Secondly, you lose any potential customers who are using a Mac when the site layout breaks completely in the Safari browser. See below pic. tracstev
Thanks for the spending your time to look at my site, I really appreciate it. See below comments, I have been working non stop in the evenings trying to fix these issues: Firstly you need to optimise your images. Your front page loaded painfully slowly here and I'm on a FAST connection, if anyone was using dialup or even 128 or 256kb adsl, it's going to be really slow. Noted, for some reason the JPG files were around 50k in size, I have changed the format to .GIFF however the images look worse now... looks like i'll have to redo, although I think they need some further descriptions/ graphics anyway. Secondly, you lose any potential customers who are using a Mac when the site layout breaks completely in the Safari browser. See below pic. Missing a /table instruction, this also was apparent in Netscape so hopefully i've killed two birds with one stone. Thanks Jon - You need a thumbnail contribution for your images as the quality is awful - The font on your top navigation buttons is fuzzy - The font in the category descriptions is way to big - You state in the header that ordering with you is secure but the create account page is not https - The font on shipping & returns is hard to read as it's all bold - I couldn't find your business address or phone number - The pink is a bit too bright Agreed Thumbnail are pretty poor! I've made an attempt to recrop the original images to the size specified for smaller images in the admin section, done a pretty poor job though. I'll try image magic, BTW your site looks very impressive indeed. I've changed the Navigation bar and am now using CSS to create these, looks a lot better and should increase load times etc. I've decreased the font size as well now thanks and removed the highlighting.thanks. Regarding security, I only take Paypal payments so far, do I really need SSL, perhaps I need to clarify this in the checkout screen. Added business address on the header, I agree it makes the shop more of a reality. The Ghastly pink has been replaced by a deep red, I think this is better however I though bright pink was ok!! Products arent laid out that well, I think there is a contribution to add a brief description next to the item so I'll install this. I havent had the site online too long but Yahoo seems to have indexed my pages quite well, although Google only appears to have indexed the home page. I have ran a HTML validator and there are over 100 errors reported so I am thinking this has something to do with it, apparently the DOCTYPE is incorrect so I will need to research why this is (didnt realise just how much of my social life this would take!!) Thanks Abracadabra. the sex toys take center stage over the lingerie. All the lingerie is below the fold, and hardly noticeable at first. I agree, it's is a bit dominated by the toys. - Good Point I will look into this You offer currency info in Euros and Dollars, but your shipping page doesn't mention anything about overseas shipping. I'm not even sure if you do it. - I wasnt intending to ship outside of the UK, however I might as well since I may get some sales abroad perhaps. You can probably get rid of the cartoonish icons that seem way too big on the Shipping, Links and Contact Us pages. - I agree I'll change/remove these. - I've faked a few more, the original two were just from testing functionality!!! Thanks Adrienne Thanks again, I will see if i can make the majority of these changes over the next few days! Thanks and have a good weekend Tracey

Andrew Yuen
All your infoboxes are so so small. I would put the site in a fixed width table. Check http://peachesandplums.co.uk/images/Rabbit-Vibrators.JPG it seems to be broken. I would also change the logo, it is very hard to read. Chance
You are another adult drop shipping site. Even if you are not another adult drop shipping site, you look like one. There are 50 billion adult sites on the web, what is your unique selling proposition to make customers want to buy from you instead of anywhere else? Oh, and I had to dig to find your privacy policy, which is just a paragraph on your conditions page. I don't know about you, but if I was in the market for a 10" RAMBO the first thing I would look for was an extremely visible privacy policy that says my personal information is not going to be sold on the "The dudes who like 10" dildos list". My advice comes in two flavors- Pick the one that won't offend you.
