Hi

I have recently been working on my new Adult Toy and Lingerie Store using Oscommerce for the past few weeks, and want to know what other people think about it. I am currently using google adwords and have a high CTR rate of 4% and 71 clicks so far but no sales.

I'm not sure why any products aren't selling as I have lowered prices to the minimum and am far cheaper than any competitors so I am wondering if there is something fundmentally wrong with the site.

I'd really appreciate it someone could give me some feedback, and let me know where I am going wrong.

Pictures are pretty tame but i wouldnt open this site in front of your boss!

Thanks!

Well it is a highly competitive market and probably people just come to look.

Some things that should be improved on though:

Ghastly pink colour scheme, poor quality images, very slow server, checkout requires an account to be created.

Thanks for the reply, I've been experimenting with a few colours and have toned the site down a few times (did have white writing on black background as well to make things clash a little!!) I'll see if I can improve the pictures, the thumbnails are a little choppy i guess.

I'll try adding the purchase without account login, do you think people do not like entering their email address due to the nature of the products?

Thanks!

Yes it was the nature of the products that makes me think of either FEC or PWA. Personally my preference is for Fast Easy Checkout. I found it had no impact on sales in my shop but it made my life easier entering telephone orders.

You need SSL too.

btw whilst I don't think price is your problem, ?22 for a DVD seems rather toppy.

Hello David.

I was just surfing the Forum for ideas as I am soon to be active with my site and wanted to make things as easy for my customers as possible. I read your comment above about "checkout requires an account to be created." Is there a way to integrate the "create account" with the check out procedure so that as the customer checks out , it automatically creates an account?

Or maybe gives the option to the customer to create an account and subscribe to a newsletter? Or something like that?

Thanks in advance.

Good for you for offering it up for review.

Couple of suggestions - its far too bright.. try placing something in the background to dim in down a bit. eg

BODY {

text-align: center;

background-image: url(http://www.yoursite/images/background.gif);

background-repeat: repeat-x;

background-position: left top;

background-color: #3a89b0;

color: #000000;

margin: 0px;

}

you need to make a background gif.

Also you have too much stuff on your front page. Entice people in. Make them feel at home! Your shop front looks like it needs to have some shelves moved back.. theres no space!

Also big rule of thumb when displaying stuff on the web try steer clear of red. Its like a smack in the face, which is not what you want to do to customers coming in your front door! well I suppose it depends what they are in to.. but dim the lights, and give them some room to relax! Im sure they will stay longer and who knows perhaps even buy something!
