paulleeson Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Hi all, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction on a problem I have. Does anyone know what the possible cause would be for Oscommerce loading slowly or hanging in Internet Explorer. Firefox seems fine. And if possible can you guys check this demo store in IE and let me know if it is slow for you. http://www.redboatdesign.co.uk/shopdemo/ Any help is greatly appreciated. Paul
julianpuje Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 It is quite slow loading in IE, especially the images. When i first opened it there was a little hang before anything appeared. This is the same in Firefox when it first opens. The only difference you'll find with Firefox is that Firefox caches the pages where IE doesn't (as far as i know). So any subsequent pages in firefox will load quicker. Are you using a cache contribution to cache the pages? Something i have noticed is some of your thumnail images are massive? your test 3 and test product image is 105000bytes which won't help at all. If you want the images to load faster you need to use an image contribution to scale them down if your not already. You can then upload larger images for your popup and the contribution will scale them down for your thumbnails automatically as I notice your pop ups are the same size as your thumbs. The server could also be partly to blame. If you have cpanel, click on the view server bit and see what the load on the server is. If your on a shared server and the load is high, your site will load slow. Your host should be able to sort this out and if not get them to move your site to a more reliable/stable server if they have one. Failing that, change hosts. Just a few things i've noticed, hope it helps. Nice site though. Julian A little knowledge is dangerous, I SHOULD KNOW. If Life Begins At 40, What ends????

mazoo Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I just have the same problem.Could you help us? Thank you. :-" search the contributions section for on the fly thumbnail and install the contribution, it will then show a much smaller lower resolution file for the thumbnail and the larger file when you click to enlarge which will speed your shop loading speed. Kathryn I just have the contribution installed. The problem is browsing with IE that is not caching any images like header and menus. With Firefox works perfect. Your web has the same problem with IE. :-"
