Just came across this and thought it might be worth sharing.

A word of warning!

Thoughts and opinions please.

I think I can guess what a lot of people are going to say.

that's messed up.

i was always waiting for something like this to surface.. do you know the shop owner(s) that this has happened to?

this type of thing can probably happen with accepting credit cards as a whole.. fraud isn't limited to just paypal.. i think the underlying problem is the credit card companies that let people chargeback with little to no "investigation"

Hi eww,

I dont know this person, I found this after looking on another forum as I have setup a well known piece of auction software that plugs into osc.

I think that shipping to PO Box addresses even if they are verified is a very dodgy thing and I certainly do not do it and never will.

I totally understand Paypals situation after all they are in business to make money not lose just like the rest of us but there has to be a line drawn when they dont honour their own policies.

Well that's really hard but this can't (our rather could not) be a very professional business. You should always transfer the money on your paypal-account to your bank account and then to another bank account so the bank-account where you transfer the paypal money to is always empty. There is no way paypal could have done anything but removing the money on the paypal-account

Sandra,

A very valid point that I would never have thought of.

Well, I had my issues with paypal as well but fortunately they were on my side and helped get the "stolen" money back.

Makes me really think about not offering this option as a payment method.

But how will ebayers react to not having paypal as an option, do you think it will have any negative effect?

Well firstly my thoughts are that WorldwideDVDs should firstly contact their local law enforcement and then contact their legal representatives. Make them aware of this fraud and get someone to somehow investigate.

In my experience, instead of using a PayPal merchant account, using WorldPay is better with much better fraud protection!

Personally when I complain .. I complain BIG TIME! I have various contacts in the Media and a top-notch Solicitor so a few threats here and there and whoever I'm complaining to will co-operate with me and my requests.

I've never had a problem with PayPal myself but if I do then I'll sure enjoy threatening them.

Oh and PayPal won't accept 18-digit long card numbers!!! Some cards do have 18 digits (like 360Money) and most places still accept them but not PayPal!! Sometimes I get the feeling that PayPal is just a big ol' scam!

I am Tim? and Tim? is me!

I think you won't sell anything on ebay when not offering paypal. Paypal is what ebayers use because it's the same company.

when i used to sell on ebay i never offered paypal. i found bidders with paypal are more prone to complain (to paypal) if they don't receive the item within 2 days after purchase, regardless of shipment method they chose

ebay people use paypal because it's shoved in their face. if there were a new service like paypal that were thrown at them as frequently, they'd be all over it.

I don't accept PayPal because of all the horror stories associated with them. I accept all major credit cards and have never had a problem with reversed charges or security of the transaction. I find that the problems I have are with people who don't have credit cards. There's a reason why someone wouldn't have a major credit card - if they can't be trusted by the issuing bank, why should I trust them. Therefore, no checks or PayPal payments accepted from my company. PayPal is only good for when you're first starting your business and don't want to pay all the monthly charges associated with regular merchant accounts. Once you start having regular sales you should migrate from PayPal to a merchant account.

is there another payment method then paypal with the same security?

not with the same userbase. hopefully google launches their version of paypal shortly to give paypal some competition

i think it really depends on the type of products you sell. my target audience are teens / young adults, many of whom don't have / don't want or can't get a credit card

 i've known (personally) people to get credit cards, max em up then get another credit card a month later. that's a bs statement if i've ever heard it.

credit cards are the new form of check. you take a risk each time you accept one and if you haven't had any problems to date, you've been lucky!
