Products showing up on sub-catagory page

Hello everyone,

I just want to start off by saying I have no programming knowledge at all. So here's my problem:

I had a website built around oscommerce and I'm having problems because when I add a product to a specific sub-catagorys page, the product shows up on the page with all the other sub-catagorys as well. If this is confusing please check out this link to see what I'm talking about.

You will notice that the single product on the page for $9.95 shows up there as well as under the "Realistic" sub-catagory. I only want to the product to show up under the specific sub-catagory that i add it to because i think it would be confusing to the customer to have a page with the sub-catagorys as well as a bunch of products from those catagorys mixed in with them.

Osc does do some strange things w/subcategories, but this isn't one of them...

Is it possible that you copied the product so that it is assigned to the category AND the subcategory? If it's only assigned to the sub, it shouldn't be showing on that page you linked to. If you go to admin and open up that category "folder", make sure you see

subcat

& no loose products here ----

It could be assigned to both.

Thanks for the quick response. I checked it out under the Admin area and under that catagory it only has the 6 subcatagorys. The product only shows up under the "Realistic" subcategory in the admin area. Any other suggestions?

Your index.php file must be modified (maybe unintentionally) to show all the products under the subcat display. I finally noticed that when I looked at the 'hardware' category and 'software' too. Essentially, all the products from those categories are showing under the subcat pictures. In the categories where we see just subcats it's because you haven't added products yet, from what I can tell anyway.

If you want to post your (catalog)/index.php file I'll take a look.

There are some things in the layout that are different, but there's nothing wrong w/the queries, etc. that I can find.

I almost came back and said I was stumped (easy to do, I promise). :blink:

But... I think the simple clean design (which I like) may have thrown me off. My next guess is that those products that are showing there might be your "new products" module (in disguise). On a stock osc shop, there's a heading above that spot that says "new products for june" or something similar.

Try this.

Go to your admin panel>configuration>maximum values>new products module

I think we'll find that it says "6". Change it to zero. Go back and see if those extra products are gone.

If that's not it, then it might be part of a featured products module, which I see on your front page.

With no heading above those products, it's hard to tell...but the new products module is still being called for in the file I had you post, so that should be it. See if changing that setting to zero makes the extra products disappear.
