Installation problem - Step 7

Hi, fellow osCommerce users and experts. I am confident that some (or most) of you can help me complete my installation problem.

Through reading the posts in this forum, I managed to get pass Step 2 which stalled many people (me included). I am grateful for all of your contributing advice and suggestions.

Nonetheless, I now am stuck at Step 7, "New Installation, osCommerce Configuration". The error message I got at this page is:

---------------------------------------------------

User 'oscommerce' has exceeded the 'max_questions' resource (current value: 10)

Please click on the Back button below to review your database server settings.

---------------------------------------------------

Note: Strange that what got me to the above Step 7 screen was a second run of the Step 6, "New Installation, osCommerce Configuration", where I was asked to provide info for Database Server, Username, Password, & Database Name. I was okay with the first run. According to the documentation, I am supposed to have 2 runs of this any way, the 2nd run is for configuring a 2nd osCommerce user, which I don't have (I only have a root/Super user and an osCommerce user named oscommerce and a Database named commerce_db.)

When I clicked the Back button to check that all info is correct, I click the Continue button again, and this time I got to the Step 7, "New Installation, osCommerce Configuration", with a new error message:

--------------------------------------------------

Table 'commerce_db.configuration' doesn't exist

--------------------------------------------------

I am baffled by the 2 different error messages. Would someone kindly decipher these 2 error messages and help me get through this stage so that I can complete the installation?

Thanks for your anticipated assistance!

Ok, after 2 more days of combing through all the postings in this forum on my own, I've learned that "Table 'commerce_db.configuration' doesn't exist" happened because the configuration table was not set up. And I queried my database named commerce_db, indeed there is no table other than one named "address_book".

So now my questions are:

* How can I, manually or otherwise, set up the configuration table?

* How does this configuration table look like . . . meaning, what is the content of this configuration table?

As for my 'max_questions' resource problem, I still haven't encountered any posting about it. It doesn't seem ike a common problem to other users.

I've noticed that many people have looked at my post, but nobody has offered any insights, suggestions, advice, or comments yet. :( I really hope that someone can help me complete the installation . . . I've been struggling with the osCommerce installation since last Sunday! And I had done a lot of reading and searching through the forums prior to posting my questions. Please help!!! :'(

Thanks in advance.

If the setup did not populate your database you can do it manually from phpmyadmin in your hosting control panel. Just use the oscommerce sql file.

Usually when you see a resources message like the one you recieved it is a bad sign as it is saying that your mysql server is going over what is allowed as in you ( or someone) is using to much in the way of database resources.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

Thank you for your reply, Richard.

Well, I do not have phpMyAdmin installed (this whole shebang--WAMP & osCOmmerce--is all on my local computer system as a testing platform.)

After reading all the posts, I reluctantly downloaded phpMyAdmin and tried it out . . . reluctantly because I already have enough problems installing the whole shebang--I installed MySQL5, PHP5, Apache2 individually--and I am now stuck on osCommerce. I've been struggling every step of the way trying to get all these guys to work together (yes, now WAMP are cooperating) & have come to this point. Therefore I was anticipating problems with the phpMyAdmin installation.

As I feared, phpMyAdmin did not install smoothly & I am stucked yet at one more thing (in addition to osCommerce) :o Ahggggggg!!!

The documentation for phpMyAdmin is a horrid! Almost incomprehensible! Don't get me wrong . . . I am used to reading technical literature, but I simply found myself not understanding precisely what I am supposed to do and where am I supposed to place the files (and precision understanding is very important with these kind of tasks in computing--installing and configuring things.)

The bottomline: I am getting nowhere with phpMyAdmin, & I am abandoning it.

So, Richard, without phpMyAdmin, can I still populate my database by hand? I see that oscommerce.sql is a file containing all the tables with their corresponding attributes. I also see that the 'Configuration' table is in there too. I am pretty comfortable in command prompt. Can I create the empty tables (as in, without the attributes) in command prompt and then re-run the osCommerce installation to populate the tables (because logically, there should now be tables for it to populate)?

As for the resource problem, I totally don't understand it . . . yet. I am the only person using my computer system and I am the only one using the MySQL server . . . and I am only setting things up . . . I am not even making any queries yet!

For now, how about any thoughts or comments (from either Richard and/or anyone) on manually finishing the database tables by hand, without the help of phpMyAdmin?

Thanks a million!!!
