hutt5 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I'm having trouble finding the answer to this... or not sure anyway... I see a reset button at the bottom of the page when I'm in Admin, then Tools, then File manager. What does it do exactly? Thanks! Lauren
Daemonj Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Admin > Tools > File Manager is evil and should not be used. Use an FTP program to download the target file, backup the original file on your local system, edit the file, and then upload it to your server. hutt5 Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 Oh, I'm not using it for any updating. I use Dreamweaver to do that, and upload thru that program. But, I was trying to get a contrib to work, and the author of the contrib suggested that I "restart" my cart. I have no idea what that means, and was wondering if that "reset" button was for that. I'm not touching that button though, until I'm sure of what it does! LOL Would you know what "restarting" my cart is, exactly? Thanks! Lauren
Daemonj Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I've honestly never heard of restarting your cart unless they mean for you to close your browser and then start a new browsing session. hutt5 Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 Hmmm... did that... several times. Oh well, thanks for responding though! Lauren

What does it do exactly? Thanks! Lauren It acts like a cancel button. If you don't have the security update installed, you shouldn't use the filemanager in admin. Otherwise, it is OK to use. The reset button if only for the filemanager page. It won;t affect the rest of your shop. When someone told you to restart the cart, he was probably saying you needed to clear the brosers cache. Hello Jim, from your comments and helps I can see you are quite good in Oscommerce. I will appreciate if you can help me here. We have online store. We will sale in two Scenarios. Scenario 1 - Customer pays with Pay Pal and then downloads the file then it is done. This is very easy and I have done this and it works well. My real problem is this: Scenario 2 - Customer can subscribe for a month to download updated daily news for every day (30 day subscription period) For this; customer should have Member Login or similar link in order to login to the specific folder or link with her login name and password in order to download daily news related file. (These files can b PDF or DOC etc) I can configure Oscommerce in product Attributes and crate two link for buy and subscribe. Buy now $3.95 Subscribe for month: $25.00 When customer clicks on Subscribe she will download first available file and download it. Then tomorrow and next day she should be able to login and be able to download new file. How do I do that? God bless you Thank you Errol [email protected]
Daemonj Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 First I will assume that you have added a subscription start date to the user's customer record, which is stored in the session. You could then use the New Products module or a copy of it that is modified to pull products that have a date added (possibly modified) value that is greater than or equal to the subscription start date. I am sure there are other ways to obtain the functionality you are looking for but that is just what I thought of. "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds.
