Redesigning for the PHP impaired?

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have no knowledge of PHP - only HTML and some CSS. I'm pretty clueless, but I'll narrow this down to the 2 main issues I want to figure out...

I want to redesign my store - at the very least, change the color scheme to match my existing site. I found the document on how to change the CSS styles for this, but it's difficult to work with, since I cannot view the changes until I upload the stylesheet to the server. is there any easier way to customize it, or must I just do trial and error?

secondly, I added one product page to experiment:

http://obviate.us/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_17&products_id=28 ://http://obviate.us/catalog/product_i...products_id=28 ://http://obviate.us/catalog/product_i...products_id=28 ://http://obviate.us/catalog/product_i...products_id=28

how do i get rid of that small image that says "click to enlarge"?

Firefox's superb Web Developer Toolbar comes with an excellent CSS editor which allows you edit CSS in real time, on-the-fly which saves a lot of time uploading stylesheets to servers.

It also has tons of other features which are really useful for developing OSC stores.

Absolutely cool. Since my IE broke down on me I changed to Firefox. Of course I added tons of extensions that make your life much easier but I never checked out this CSS tool. My favourite is the Outline tables and tablecells. Like this you can see the layout of the page without ploughing through the source code.

Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome.

Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong.

THANK YOU!!! This is absolutely brilliant!

I'm still playing around with it to figure out how everything works. I see with the CSS you can just save whatever changes you make and upload it later to the server. but what if i want to edit something else - for instance, if i outline my table cells? is it possible to save these changes, or can they just show what it will look like?

No you can't save this feature - it's just a quick visual guide that outlines tables, table cells and block level elements (<div>'s, <p's> etc) on the page.
