filteauf Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Okay, so here's my first attempt at a E-commrce site. I'm upgrading from more of a product catalog that's been getting hit with click through's lately, and we're not sure how many more sales we possibly missed by requiring people to call us to order. The site can be seen at http://stripe3.com/osctest. I'll break my feedback requests into 3 basic categories of layout (not my forte, will be running it by my more right-brained coworkers to get their input on what they'd like to see), website operatioins, and information: Known issues: Layout: Very stock look, but I don't particularly mind this buttons front page information, haven't decided if I want to regularly focus on new product or keep a general 'about us' type of page Team Sales box, haven't decided where I like it yet Operations: SSL, have it disabled until I am almost ready to go, at which point I'll get a cert Planning on installing FEC contrib Moving the site directory to the top level once tests are complete Rearranging my import function so that my current sort order will display newest product first Information: Inventory: I still need to work on my inventory export function from our retail store POS system, but my import function works (made up inventory for the category 'World Cup Track Tops' for testing purposes) Size charts for apparel
chooch Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 The key here is this... would you buy from a site that looked like yours osC store? If the answer is 'no' then you know what to do! If the answer is 'yes' and you are happy with it then I suggest adding some admin related contributions to enhance your functionality like sales reports, customers reports, weeekly/monthly stats and so on. These won't affect what the customers see but will give some good functions for the admin area. Good Luck Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back! Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you? There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere. CHOOCH
filteauf Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 The key here is this... would you buy from a site that looked like yours osC store? If the answer is 'no' then you know what to do! That's about what I was looking for feedback on. My own answer is a yes...but. Essentially there is nothing to make me say no, but nothing to make me say a resounding yes (exception of 1 style sheet change I was messing with this morning that I need to change back in the product_info boxes). I did make a couple other changes clearing out the formatting on some boxes (product_info page, still need to go through other pages), added in a body margin which I like, added a body border that I'm not too sure if I like or not. I'v ebeen sticking to more of a default layout partially because that's how my old site was laid out. As I said I am not huge on design, my talents lie more in the data manipulations, and I don't know exactly what I would do to make the page 'pop' a little more, but I'll play around a bit more and will graciously accept any suggestions.
Guest Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Not too shabby thus far. Personally, ditch the visitor count (bottom of site) and the product count in the categories. Don't forget to swap out the default stock clipart images - now they are out of place with your color selection. Also, ditch the checkout, cart, account icons in the header cause they are putting the site to the right (at least on my aol browser) - they stick out well beyond the right column. Perhaps add store hours and such on your contact us page. Turn around time on inquiries, etc. Like your product listing page (when you click on a category). View this product as an example : The MSRP price is on two lines - there should be plenty of room to put on one line. "MSRP" is traditionally capitalized - don't know if the small letters were intentional or not. Not sure if you are done working on product descriptions or not, but with the product above, there is certainly not enough information: need material info (cotton, polyaster, etc), sizes available (and how they run: Small (4-6), Medium (8-10), etc), and sales pitch blurb ("Play tennis in style with this fashionable yet functional sleeveless top." blah blah) Nice site thus far!

Thanks for the feedback, gonna ditch that stock art next time I get a chance to get into my stylesheet, as well as the body border and the product listing border, (messed around with it in Firefox this morning, just saw how IE renders it). Descriptions are still in progress, I've got a hit tracker going on my current site and have been adding them to the more popular product first.
