Automated Download of Digital Goods?

Hi

I was looking at the free version (v2.2 MS2) of OSCommerce that comes with Fantastico and I was wondering if it supports the automated download of digital goods. I create and sell software products and I need for the customer to be able to download the items they purchase immediately via an email that is sent to them (ie; "instant product fulfilment"). Here's what I'm talking about...

1) Customer purchases a software product (via PayPal).

2) Customer in sent an email with a download link.

3) The download link should be associated with a dynamically-changing uisername and password to prevent theft and/or piracy.

4) Customer downloads the software via the link but anyone else trying to use the same link would not be able to download the software.

Is OSCommerce capable of this right out-of-the-box and if so, I'm assuming I would need to create a folder on my server in which to store all of my software products, correct?. If OSCommerce does not support this sort of thing, are there any free shopping carts that come with Fantastico that do?.

- Thank's for any input on this, John

It sure is capable of doing exactly as you describe.

That sounds great and thank's for the speedy reply!. I've just installed it, did some minor configuration and looked it over a bit but I'm not quite sure exactly where I need to go in order to set up the automated software delivery thingy where the customer gets sent an email containing a download link upon purchasing a product. Also, do I need to create a folder for the software products?. Sorry, I've never used a cart before so I am completely new to this (but excited about it!).

For one issue... the folder called 'downloads' is where all your 'to be downloaded' products will go. Use an FTP program to transfer them there. For the second issue, go to your admin area and find the 'downloads' link and go from there.

You can also find the oscommerce manual very effective too.

Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back!

Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you?

There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere.

You will also need to access Admin > Catalog > Product Attributes and define the products as being downloadable.

Read the instructions manual detailing the downloads section, it's easier that way rather than get writers cramp typing here...
