Trying to change some boxes background

Hello all, I would like my category, bestsellers and info boxes to have this background (don't pay attention to the dark gray areas):

 

I would also like to get each row (not only the text but the whole row) highlighted when one pass with the mouse over. I saw it on a few sites and tried to change it in the stylesheet with a .gif file of, lets say, 5 x XX px (I also modified the boxes padding in the includes/classes/boxes.php in order to have the same height for each row) as:

 

.infoBoxContents {

background: url('images/infobox/background.gif') repeat-y;

 

It didn?t work at all. Not only I get the image on a tiny space on the left side of each box only, but it also changes all the boxes background, which I don?t want.

 

Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

hhmmmm ..... :'( .... how can I add an attachment to show you my .gif file???? (newbie dificulties!)
