when i go to admin backup, i get

Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/bin/gzip) is not within the allowed path(s): (/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp) in

/admin/backup.php on line 424

The osc backup just backs up the databse right?

Should I just back up everything using my host cpanel and the databse instead.

can someone help me here. Should I just backup my entire site directory in my cpanel, it works the same way right?

I disabled gzip, and the messages still show up.

I don't know why your admin isn't allowing you to back up but yes, you can use your cpanel and open phpmyadmin and download the whole sql from there on to your PC. Remember to save it in .sql - so something like: 28may2006backup.sql

Once you have backed up from your domain control panel you need to address the issue of why it isn't letting you back up from admin.

Good Luck

Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back!

Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you?

There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere.

I got this error as well starting this weekend. I haven't changed any files in the past week or so.
