so I downloaded 2.2 and I extracted the files but I don't know how to install it at all. I open up the file I extracted and I see "build, include, os" but I don't see "install". lol. I know this sounds stupid but I don't know how to install it. thanks

did some research and found that u have to use the microsoft installer. I downloaded that and now it works! But do u just leave it the way it is or do u have to modify anything w/ it?

the installer will ask you some questions but other than that it should be good to go. The Apache config file may need tweeking depending where you are serving your documents from as the web root.

Enter http://localhost in your browser. If you get a 404 (or other error) it is not installed successfully. If you get the default Apache page with the Apache logo then it's worked.

To get OSC running on it you will also need PHP and MySQL installed on your machine.

If you are setting apache up on your computer for development purposes I would recommend installing apache friends which includes mysql php5 and of course apache2.2 I used it to try out osCommerce before I went live with it.

I hope you find this helpful.

thanks a lot guys! Now I'm having another prob though. I am trying to change the permissions in the config file to 777 but everytime I do so, it reverts back to what it was before. So the change is not taking effect for some reason. Any ideas?

You should log in to your domain control panel and go from there. Be it cpanel or whatever, it will allow you to change the file permissions. In the event you are having problems, ask your host to help out as they may be a reason or fault why that's happening.

Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back!

Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you?

There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere.

Yeah some ISP's allow you to change permissions via FTP but most do not. You have to use your domain control panel as Chooch said and do it from there.

yeah, I called up my host (godaddy) and they told me how to do it BUT I get these options:

Read, Web, Browse, Write, Set Root, Reset

I know that I need Read, write, and execute.

The problem now is that I don't see execute as one of the options. lol What should I do? Should I choose "web" instead of execute?
