Guest Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Hello everyone. I'm the end user/store owner. We are having problems with the newsletter functionality. Each time I send out a newsletter, it appears to 'run' for hours. I have about 1500 customer receiving it. It sits on 'sending' page for a LONG time. Plus, it appears that not all customers get it. I usually see a 'flurry' of activity immediately after sending, but the last few times, I saw nothing (plus a friend verified that she never received newsletter). Other customers write to me saying they are receiving multiple copies. My programmer tells me that there is no way to tell who receive it, who didn't, how many they received, or why the send fails. He said that no one else (of his other customers) have this problem. I'm getting upset because he does not want to investigate WHY it's not working because they are planning on moving away from OS Commerce and is forcing me to use HTML/PHP which I do not know how to use. Question: Are any of you having similar problems with newsletter function? Any idea why this is happening to me and not his other customers? SUGGESTIONS please!!! Very frustrated OS Com end user. Thanks! DK
Dilder Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Hi, We are also having the same problem in a store with 2000 users. When we checked the logfiles after the last newsletter we discovered it was only sent to 500 customers. Did you get this resolved?
Dilder Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 After som e more investigation, the problem seems to occur because of a php timeout. The solution would be to look at a contribution. We are looking at: Advanced Bulk Mailer http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2624 or Email Queue http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,3184
videobus Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 ......My programmer tells me that there is no way to tell who receive it, who didn't, how many they received, or why the send fails. He said that no one else (of his other customers) have this problem.... Please follow these steps to correct your problem (don't omit any): 1. FIRE your current programmer immediately! When someone you are paying, and your business depends on his/her services, gives you this kind attitude and lip service, they are just too lazy to research and discover the problem! I never had a problem that couldn't be solved. Some problems are easy and quick, and some are very difficult and require lot of time, thought and KNOWLEDGE about every aspect of the system as a whole to find the cause. 2. HIRE a caring and knowledgable person. Ask for many references, including projects that didn't go as well as expected. Everyone can boast about successes, but it takes a confident person to acknowledge some mistakes and failures. Nobody is perferct. 3. When he said no one else is having this problem, do his customers all have the same exact hosting service, the same customer email addresses, the same email text, the same customer's local ISP, the same DLS/dialup at their home, the same OS, the same hardware? Also, if the email list is delivered up to a certain address on the list and then it quit, the first thing to suspect (as other's have suggested) is a timeout. This seems a common problem with PHP. Try to break the list into smaller segments and email them in groups.
JemCraft Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Hi, I was having this problem too but installed the contrib Advanced Bulk Mailer as suggested above. It seemed to work fine with the number going down each time I pressed send until they had all been sent - BRILLIANT, or so I thought! I have just checked my e-mail account and can see that 1503 have been returned as undeliverable with the message: This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: **************@aol.com unrouteable mail domain "aol.com" It doesn't matter what the @****.com/@****.co.uk bit is, it says it is an unrouteable mail domain???? Can anyone help?

Errors or no errors, I cant see where the drop-down list is supposed to be showing up for me to select the bulk mail option. If admin/newsletters.php is not calling this module and only calls the admin/includes/modules/newsletter.php one, how then does it ever get used??? I am obviously missing something. If you could point me in the right direction here, maybe I will find a solution for your problem whilst testing it.
