admin login won't go

I've installed osCommerce twice, removed the admin table, reinstalled, manually altered the password listed, deleted the entry, imported the data, dumped it, reinstalled it ..... but I still can't work it out!

I get a page which says " congratulations the configuration was successful! Click on the links to access your store -

user: admin@localhost

pass: password

Well, I've tried, and tried. and it just keeps telling me that my username or my password is incorrect. How can I get past this? I appear to have the correct settings, as when I go into phpMyAdmin the tables have all been added and populated. The password in the admin table seems to be encrypted. So now I'm just totally lost.

Password in the admin table? There is no admin table unless you're using a contribution. If you are, then you need to tell us which one...after you check the support for that contribution.

And if there's a hashed password in any table, manually altering it will get you nowhere. The only way you can manually alter it and still get in is to delete the entry so you can log in without a password. And that sometimes doesn't work if there's a length check on the password field.

Thanks people. I didn't have any .htaccess files uploaded, I think that's my FTP program which stops that. So I renamed the files, uploaded them and renamed them back again, but that didn't work.

I was using a version which supposedly has all the most commonly used modules for Australian shops already included. I couldn't find any FAQ pages, and I was just getting so frustrated with it that I decided to scrub it. I downloaded the plain version from Sourgeforce and it has worked fine. Now all I need to do is find the modules I was trying to test.
