Delay payment until order is checked

I have looked and looked but cant seem to find a contribution or anyone that has come across this problem before.

 

Basically what we want is for the checkout to be stopped before the payment page, or for it to go through and not go to the payment page. Then we can check the order and make sure everything is in stock, and alter the order if need be.

 

the customer can then log back into the site and pay when the order has been checked.

 

Anyone got any ideas on how this can be done?

There is already stock support with osc. If you setup quantities for the products the code automatically adjusts the stock. If an item is out of stock it restricts the checkout procedure.

yeah I know about stock support but the end user doesnt think she will be able to use it, because she thinks when they are at shows selling the products, they might get sold out on the website and she will get chargebacks. As they sell live plants, the number of stock can fluctuate depending on weather.

Also the strict import/export regs means there is no automated shipping level, because the rules change daily.

 

I think the best option is to allow the customer to check out with details of how they wish to pay. The site can then edit the order and shipping depending no whats available and rules. Ideally it would be good to be able to then send a paypal invoice automatically from the Oscommerce admin, maybe using the IPN, but not sure if this is possible!!
