Trogan Horse Virus found on my site!

I've just found a trogan horse virus on my website. When accessing the index.php page, the virus would automatically execute into a cmd window, and shut down the website.

 

The Virus url is something like www.erzac.com/

 

I'm just wondering how the heck somebody could actually put a virus on my site?

 

I opened up my index.php file and found a Script function near the bottom of the page, with the url of this virus. I've now removed this, but i can't help wonder how it got there?

 

Any suggestions about this?
