Uploading files via ftp to apache server

Hi, I am new to using ftp and I am trying Upload the catalog directory to my apache server using FTP. I assume that I have to first add apache to my server list then I enetered the following details;

Name: apache

FTP Serever: ftp.brandsupermarket.co.uk //which is my website url

FTP Port: 21

UserID: // my id for acessing the website

Password:

Inital Directorie on Machine: //the directorie containing my site

 

when I try to connect I get the error 500 No Data (Winsock error #11004)

 

which is basicaly saying not to have the ftp part in FTP Serever: ftp.brandsupermarket.co.uk

but when I remove it the system crashes.

 

I got the feeling I am going horribly wrong thanks for your help.

You have the FTP address wrong. It will be your hosts name, not your domain name.

 

e.g. Being as you're UK based, if you hosted with BT, the FTP address would be ftp.btconnect.com
