stanley_fu Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Hi, I Am A 16 Year Old Kid Wanting To USe osCommerce To Make A Site To Sell LOTS Of Stuff To My Friends. I Dun Wanna Just Send Pic And Tell Size I Have Or Color I Have So I Want To Make A More Pro Site. You Know Sites Like www.tigerdirect.ca or the demo on www.oscommerce.com. The Thing Is I Only Accept Cash And Ya. I Just Need Help On Finding A Easy To Use Free Host For This. And Better Instructions On Installing This. BTW IS THIS HARD TO USE???? I Have Knowledge Of Some Scripting (VB,TURING,HTML). I Tried To Use byethost but i dunno how to upload the thing onto it. Also, When ocCommerce Is Installed, Is The Editing And Other Stuff All Graphical Or All Scripting?? Um If This Is Too Hard To Use Can Anyone Recommend Any Of These EStore Or Ecommerce Site Builders. (Like geocities, freewebs, lycos etc)
HSMagic Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 This is probably not for you. OSC requires a MYSql database, very unlikely that a free host will offer that. If you find a free host that offers SQL then setting up the initial store is a simple FTP upload. Everything after that is scripting. There is no WYSIWYG for OSC. To make an OSC site look like TigerDirect is going to take countless hours of work. Knowing HTML is a great start, but PHP is a total different beast. You can always go to a host like 1and1.com and buy a store account. That will let you put together a basic store with the point and click interface.
