RobinHalifax Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Hi All Well, I have this website now and to be honest, I can't fault it so far. But, i'm getting more and more requests for from customers to send the instruction manuals and product catalogues etc etc for the products i'm selling in my site. So, I think I may need to set up a facility for them to log on via FTP and download this material for themselves. That sounds fantastic but I don't have a clue how to do it, can anyone point me in the right direction for some instruction? Thanks Rob
♥Vger Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 You don't need FTP for people to be able to download Instruction Manuals. Save them either as zipped files or PDF's, put them in a folder of their own, and then just supply links to them. When anyone clicks the link then in the case of the zip file they'll be asked if they want to download it, and in the case of the PDF it will download and open in their browser (provided they have Acrobat Reader). For Product Catalogues, look at the Thumbnail PDF Catalogue link below my name. Vger
RobinHalifax Posted May 4, 2006 Author Posted May 4, 2006 Ooo, that's fantastic. Can you tell me if there is a file size limit doing it that way? Thanks Rob
♥Vger Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 There wouldn't be a file size limit on the links to download files. The Thumbnail PDF Catalogue, when you actually first generate the catalogues, would be governed by the PHP Maximum Execution time set in php.ini - but there are ways around that. They do generate quickly though because the images used are thumbnails with a small file size. Vger
