newbie help

Hi all! i've been lurking for a little while & finally got up the courage to start the install process. I have a client who needs an online store, and i've designed the entire site, and saved this little chunk for last.

I am not even sure OS commerce can do what i need it to do, so i guess that's my first question. I need to have simply a few drop down selections on a page with a flash movie that I made that shows the inventory. I just need the customers to drop down & select the customizations to make their item, then add to a cart & checkout. Just about 5 selectors i guess.

Next issue-- So, instead of trying to install this on my clients server & messing something up, i did a test install on my own server. i figured to do this, i'd need a fakey store made-- which i though i had (at least a page called store.html) which i uploaded. Then, i saw i needed a DATABASE! (i know nothing of databases!) so i went into myPHPadmin & made a fake database. i am almost 98% positive i did it wrong. Is there someplace online I can find a good fake/test store database to use? I dont even know what a correct database looks like.

And, i guess the good news in all of this is that i dont need help installing, because i got it on & followed the directions very nicely. then, i went to the admin page (boy was i glad to see that!) and clicked on something (this happens when i click on ANY link on that page) and this error came up:

The requested URL /store.html/admin/categories.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

now i'm confused. what have i done? I think when i was installing & they asked me for the web address to the store, is where i messed up. but how do i go back & change that?

If you've made it this far to my newbie ramble, and can offer ANY insight (besides the point that maybe i shouldnt be making a store!) i appreciate it!
