Simple:

edit configure files where it says about secure address and put the shared host address.

TURN SSL to TRUE in configure files.

Unfortunately this is not helping. I read hundreds of messages and am overwhelmed. I'm sorry if I missed this.

I have shared SSL in a seperate SSL directory. My catalog will be in http://www.mydomain.com/catalog. The shared SSL is in https://seocr001.secure.myhostname.com. This are two totally seperate directories and are two different domains for all intents and purposes.

I want people to browse and select merchendise in http://www.mydomain.com/catalog

I want customers to access the payment gateway only in https://seocr001.secure.myhostname.com

Can someone please direct me to a post or tutorial or explain how to do this? The more details the better because I am an osCommerece newbie and will be setting-up my first shop with this software.

Thank you for your assistance

You should be able to set up a shared ssl cert by setting ssl to true and then editing the secure paths in your two configure.php files, osC at this point will switch from secure to non-secure as needed.

Your hosting company may require that you have a copy of your site in a seperate folder so if this is the case you will need to copy your site to the required location.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here
