Domain pointing

Here's the problem: heard about osc, put up a test site, AM LOVING IT!, but...I have a site that has been up and running for about 4 years now, and it pays our bills. I want to get it up on oscommerce and was thinking I should simply purchase a new url and when I have it ready with osc I could point the old url (domain name) to the new one (which would be different name).

Will this kill my rankings for the original Domain that ranks pretty good, or will pointing it somewhere else just shoot it down?

I wouldn't change the domain name just to install a new website.

 

Why do you want to?

 

Use your test site to build the osC that you want, exactly the same as when it goes live. Then when its ready just remove the existing website pages and copy osC over. There will just be a few config changes to make but it will be pretty simply.
