bshs Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 how do i protection my admin with a username and password. i know i need to go in the httaccess but i have little knowledge on this. Thanks Dave
sanityfair Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Instead of protecting mine with htaccess, I just went into my Cpanel and used the Protected Directories tool. You can specify any directories that need to be protected and create a username and password for them, so that way when you get to the directory, you get that little pop-up window that asks for a username and password.
sanityfair Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Im not sure what host you use, but my host uses Cpanel as a site management tool. It is completely seperate from osCommerce. So mine is located at www.mysite.com/cpanel Then I am prompted to log in with my username and password that was designated when I signed up for hosting. Once I log in Im presented with a screen with all the options that I have for my site that my host gives me, like setting up my MySQL databases, assigning FTP names.. etc, and for me Protected Directories is in that list of options. This varies if you have a different site management tool, as Im not sure what you have. You can email your host and ask.
Dolcev Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Instead of protecting mine with htaccess, I just went into my Cpanel.... Actually, what Cpanel is doing is creating an htaccess file for you. So technically you ARE protecting your admin panel with htaccess. :-"

I was just trying to help and it worked, so thats all that matters now.
