Unable to connect to database server

I installed the CCGV contrib last night. Went to admin and the coupon box was there, I had not run the SQl yet so tried to go to PHP myAdmin and the server didn't respond. I left it at that and went to bed thinking the server would be available in the morning. This morning I am getting "Unable to connect to database server" on my catalog page and admin page. PHPmy admin says the server isn't responding. The server says they aren't having problems. Can anyone please let me know where to start? I have quite a few mods installed, so a fresh install is not my firsct choice but, if I gotta I gotta. BTW, I reinstalled my files before the ccgv and removed ccgv old files.
