New box for login account information

I have seen on a few sites that the "Welcome Guest" and "Would you like to login" is in a box on either the right or left instead of having it on the front page. They just say "login" and "password" & "create an account"

 

I would like to be able to have this sort of box in my left column.

 

I have searched these forums and contributions and have found nothing that seems to be what I want. I have run out of words etc to search for to try and get the right answer....

 

Any help is gratefully received as always.

Do a search in the contributions for login box and you should see a few different ones.
