Ladydeb Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Hi There, I have an osCommerce web site which is backed up on my puter.... The puter has been acting a little strange  to say the least just lately and I'm worried it may just be heading for a crash landing sometime soon..... Does anyone know of a really good programme I can use to copy a shadow of everything thats on my puter to an external hard drive????? That way I get to keep safe all the images and everything else thats linked to the web site..... Is it even possible to copy the whole thing?? Am a complete newbie..so please be gentle with me....lol Very many thanks in advance..... Debs X :D
♥14steve14 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Use windows. It will copy and paste files. If you have connected up your hard drive it should be showing in your my computer screen. Right click on the files you wish to copy, then open your external hard drive, and click paste. Its that simple. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
Ladydeb Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 HI There Steve, One of the reasons I wanted to find some software was that I want to back everything up on a weekly basis.... It will be too time consuming to do this manually. So wanted a programme that I could schedule once a week to do this for me. I don't know if its possible to have everything copied, but this would be a real help to me, because I rely quite heavily on the software programmes I have on the computer for the web site and other things which are essential to my work. I really don't want to lose ALL the programmes - but if I can't copy these then I will just have to cope if the worst does occur. My external harddrive is an 80gig so I do have room for a fair amount. Thanks for replying... Debs X :D
Ladydeb Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 HI you guys, Does no one have any ideas on this? Acronis has been suggested to me, but I also heard that this software can have problems depending on your back up method. Just a couple of ideas of some straight forward - easy to use software would be great! Hope some one picks this up - as I'm getting a little worried how long my puters gonna last and don't want to lose all the work on there.... Many thanks Debs X :)
ozcsys Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 There are a lot of backup programs and the reason you are not getting much in the way of of responce is that htis is not a osC issue. Try doing a google search or maybe trying zdnet or download.com as you can usually find reviews for the different software. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

Many thanks Debs X :) Hi, I have used Acronis True Image for 2 years to do automated back ups to an external hard drive and it works well. I have never had to do a full system restore from it, but have frequently restored individual files. I did a lot of research into backup sw before choosing Acronis. At the time I chose it, it seemed the best. I am happy with it. Cheers.
