Please help - Troubleshooting 404 error??

Hi,

Any advice where to start looking for source(s) of a 404 Not Found error code? It shows up for every web page I try to access and I don't know what I did.

I know this is too vague a question by itself, so - What further info do I need to share to get some starting suggestions?

Here's some stats:

-hosted through SiteGround (not my own machine)

-haven't touched my unfinished project since December - just started back in last week

-found a sudden register_globals error last week, so I tried applying the patch contribution (by hand, I probably made some mistakes).

-then instead of register_globals, got different errors with syntax on line this and line that. Tried to go in and find/correct errors, didn't find them all. Every time I found one or fixed one, the line number for the error would just change so I gave it a rest.

-I can't access anything through Admin at all either

-my site looks like it contains CREloaded plus contributions (I paid for a "supercharged" cart from a third party, not from CRE but I see plenty of traces of it in the files so that's what it mainly is.)

I could reload I suppose and start anew - but I didn't install my site to begin with, would I have to FTP every single file separately through my control panel?? (cPanelX)

I like having some contributions already there, it saves so much time to get options built in and less likeliness of ME screwing stuff up. But it seems my project is as messed up now as it can possibly be. Any advice?

thanks for listening!

To re-install you will need to re-upload your files but you should get a ftp program and not try to upload them one at a time from your control panel.

It you have creloaded you may want to try their forums for an answer to your problems.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

Thanks for your reply.

well...crap-ola. I think I'll have to try a vanilla install of regular untainted osC and rebuild with just the contribution features I need. (what a concept, right???) the supercharged thing I got has stuff I would never use anyway - and in any case it's completely broken so it really does not matter what it has, it's junk if it's broke!

Wish I hadn't paid money just to learn that!! Somehow thought it would be easier to go through a 3rd party who knew more than myself - but I'm not sure the one I picked was the best solution in this case.

btw...CRE forums are not very informative. I think there's way more support over here and so many bright, helpful people. Maybe someday I can be one of them, lol.

Wish me luck! :-"
