SMS(cellphone) notification upon recieving order

The above thread deals with having a SMS message sent to notify you of an order. It can more simply be done my adding a direct email address for your cellphone(most providers offer this) to the 'Send Extra Order Emails To' config setting in admin.

 

I havnt done this yet, but im sure it wont be a pretty message sent to the cell since most SMS msg's are limited in size. Here's what would be nice(and im sure VERY simple for somebody in the know).....

 

Have an option in admin to choose if the 'Send Extra Order Emails To' email address is for SMS cellphone use, and if so modify the email sent....strip it down to be more simple such as the customer name, total amount of order(the basic important stuff).

 

If nothing else, anybody have a simple way of stripping down the email sent to 'Send Extra Order Emails To' address to make it more SMS friendly?

Could anybody just help me strip down the email sent to 'Send Extra Order Emails To' address to make it send just the Customer name, items ordered(no attributes needed) and the order total?

i made my extra order email settings to include my cell phone email address.

customer makes a purchase, my site sends a copy of that order to my phone email, exactly as it sends to the customer and to my admin email account.

once my cell phone gets an email from that address, it is set up to send a message to my phone.

works like a charm.

all my phone tells me is : "new message."

i look, see it is from my website and i know: order.

i can log in to my mail account through my phone and can see the order in its entirety, or get back to my computer and see the order.

i am aware of all my web orders within five minutes after they are made no matter how far from my computer that i may be.

 

this seems like the easiest way to do it, rather than editing the oscommerce code...

I did something similiar to you. I can email directly to my cell phone as a service of my cell carrier. I added that email address to my 'Send Extra Order Emails To' section in admin. Now when an order is placed it sends a copy of the invoice directly to my cell phone. The problem is that the cell's text messages are limited in size and I only ge the beginning part of the invoice. Yes, this alone tells me I have an order and is helpful. What would be more helpful is if the emails sent to the addresses listed under 'Send Extra Order Emails To' in admin could be configured to send only a couple things such as customer name, order items and order total. That way you would recieve the most important info directly to your cell.

 

This would also make things alittle easier for you as well. I know if the right person sees this they could tackle it in a couple minutes :)
